Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. This was a very natural trait for a girl from Irish origin, and who was surrounded in her early days by talented family members and parents. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and loved playing athletic games. In addition to this she was gifted for acting. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis Awards for her home country's theater and drama proved this. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she continued to pursue her dream of opera as well as classical theatre and singing.
